FRANCES WALTON TRIBUTE LUNCHEON Before the concert on April 1st, we invite friends and admirers of Frances Walton to join us in celebrating Frances' myriad contributions to music in our region and to Thalia in particular. The luncheon, with emcee Bryan Lowe from KING-FM, is in the Downstairs at Town Hall from 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM with the concert to follow at 2 PM in the Concert Hall.

Thalia was the first youth symphony (we signed up with Highline which was the south group that served Renton vs. the eastlake group) my family joined 1971 or so, we also did Seattle Youth Symphony with Vilem Sokol after 1972. We took out a cabin for our family for the camp which was in Pilgrim Firs.

My family was the original "model minority" Asian family in town with seven kids from Arthur to G, all playing violin in Thalia. I was first and I was concertmaster (Carl was later) before I went onto MIT in 1976. Frances was co-lead with Michael Sheremetiew, the big Swedish guy with the funny name who could play an unbelievable schmalzando if you heard him play Brahms sextet or Borodin quartet.
